We learn about a local aquaponicist who is manufacturing custom-made bell siphons; become acquainted with two brothers who are revamping a disused quarry in Devon to make way for what they envision to become Englands largest aquaponic system; and dissect a report on the global aquaponics sector, to identify some common setbacks inherent in aquaponics. Rather than viewing these setbacks as insurmountable, they can offer us a reality check, teaching us some important lessons about our expectations when it comes to running aquaponics systems - particularly at the commercial level. We also share the feedback we received from BAQUAs second aquaponic conference, and tell you more about the Aquaponics Research Standards Committee that we plan to launch with the aim of developing the UK Aquaponics sector. The Research Standards committee is important to us, and we want to get it right, so we encourage you to complete a short online questionnaire, where you can voice your opinion on how the committee should run and what objectives it should prioritise. We hope you enjoy the rest of the mild weather and would like to sincerely apologise for the late launch Translate. UK Aquaponic News: Disused Quarry set to become Englands largest Aquaponicum Aquaponics is steadily taking off in the UK, however, a fully fledged commercial aquaponics system is yet to emerge. This could soon change as two brothers set to revamp a disused quarry in Devon into a thriving aquaponic farm. Y ou need a good imagination to picture exactly how Old Quarry Farm will look when it is fully up and growing. ![]() However, first impressions only offer a modest taster of great things to come, for on closer inspection work abounds. The invasive species are being brought under control, a barn is under construction, work has commenced on a 2 million litre rainwater collection facility and nearly 7000 ft2 of land has been cleared for what is. The conference brought together seventy aquaponic enthusiasts from multidisciplinary backgrounds, alongside key speakers from aquaponic and related sectors. The seven speakers kindly gave up their time to inform, challenge and inspire the buddings of a united UK aquaponic community. The conference was a great success, and effective demonstration of its apt Learning Networking theme.
